An Azerbaijani lawmaker on Friday has made offensive remarks, claiming that Iran would be wiped off the map if it attacks Azerbaijan!

According to Azerbaijani media,  Kudret Hesenguliyev said, during his speech in the parliamentary session of the Azerbaijan National Assembly, that Azerbaijan must react to the Iranian threats.

He also claimed that an Iranian stance turning increasingly more aggressive against Azerbaijan will have more serious consequences in the future.

”Should Iran dare to attack Azerbaijan, it would be wiped off the map. Iran would break apart and would be replaced by five states,” Hesenguliyev alleged.

The harsh statements by Azerbaijani lawmaker come after Iranian defense minister Hossein Dehghan blasted Azerbaijan over recent Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to Baku.

According to Iranian analysts, Dehghan’s remarks seems to be misunderstood by Azerbaijani officials as he has only tried to advice Azerbaijanis that having ties with Israel would not serve their interests.

“The president of Azerbaijan naturally wants to improve relations with us (Iran), but there are others who interfere and have influence. As for the threats made by Netanyahu – we do not recognize him to even listen to what he has to say. Empty words cost nothing. Let him say what he wants until he gets tired.” Dehghan has said.

“We have advised our friends in Azerbaijan that allowing Israel to have a foothold in those areas would not serve their interests. This is something Iran will not tolerate. But this is their decision to make, in keeping with their interests.” He added in a fair and sympathetic advice.

These news come as Iran and Azerbaijan have many common historical, cultural and religious roots and at least from this perspective, the commonalities of Iran and Azerbaijan are more than that of Azerbaijan and Israel.

At the same time, Azerbaijani officials should note that Iran has never been a pioneer in any attack to another country in its long history. So, it now seems unlikely that Iran wants to invade the territory of his friend and neighbor.

However, assuming the impossible, if there would be any Iranian attack against Azerbaijan territory, nothing will be left of Azerbaijanis! So how will Azerbaijan be able to wipe Iran off the map?

Finally, we should not forget this historical reality that Azerbaijan territory has once been part of Iranian land.

The territory of what is now called the Republic of Azerbaijan was only separated from Iran in the first half of the 19th century, through the Russo-Persian Wars. In the area to the North of the river Aras, the territory of the contemporary Republic of Azerbaijan was Iranian territory until it was occupied by Russia.

Dear Mr. Kudret Husenguliyev! I would like to give you a piece of advise . As you know better than anyone that Armenia which is 1/59 the of Iran in land and 1/27 of Iran in population has accupied almost one quarter of your land in last 25 year which resulted in thousands of life of people mostly from your country . All this happened while you had back and support of Israel, Turkey, Pakistan ,,,. Your pants are down for quarter of century and you have been crying to get their mercy to return your land and your immigrants. Try to be wise and think twice before opening your big mouth . Although you are having Israel’s backing but get lessen from Dakashvily’s stupidity regarding listening to Israelis to attack North aOstia . Do not listen to them . You are not Iran’s size . Use your brain .
