Nicholas Hopton has been appointed British Chargé d’Affaires to Iran and will start his new role on 31 December 2015.

According to the UK public sector information website, Hopton has been appointed the British Chargé d’Affaires to the Islamic Republic of Iran, in succession to Ajay Sharma, who has transferred to his new role as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Qatar.

Hopton moves to Tehran from Doha where he was Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Qatar from 2013 to 2015.

On his appointment as the British Chargé d’Affaires to the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr Hopton said:

“I’m delighted to be posted to Tehran as Chargé d’affaires. I hope that it will be possible soon for both the UK and Iran to be represented by full Ambassadors in which case I will be glad to serve in that capacity. This is an important moment for relations between the UK and Iran, which we hope will continue to develop positively following the re-opening of Embassies. I look forward to contributing to that in the new spirit of cooperation between the two countries.”

Hopton joined the FCO in 1989 and has previously served as Ambassador to Yemen.

He has worked on national security issues in the Cabinet Office, led the International Organisations Department in the FCO and has European policy experience from postings in Paris and Rome and time as Private Secretary to the Minister for Europe.

On August 23, British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond re-opened UK embassy in Tehran officially, marking a major step in the thawing of relations between the UK and Iran.

The UK embassy was closed in 2011 after it was stormed by protesters during a demonstration against sanctions.

Hammond became the first UK foreign secretary to visit Iran since 2003.

    Dear Sir / Madam

I need to secure appointments for my old parents for UK embassy in Tehran to visit my Brother in the UK.
According to visa4uk website, Appointments in Tehran are released every Tuesday at 1300 Tehran time. I along with my friends and family tried to get appointments for more than 2 months but it was impossible.
While some travel agencies in Tehran guarantee they can get appointments , they sell appointments more than 150$, I requested from one of my friends who works in a software group as a computer engineer ( and a Google developer ) to research why ordinary people cannot secure even one appointment and some travel agencies even guarantee they can do that.
Their software group realized that visa4uk site get hacked when appointments in Iran are released.

This is their report:
“The website of https://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/ was examined and it became clear that the server of the said website does have the following bugs:
    SQL Injection
    Cross Site Scripting
Due to existence of these bugs, the reservation operations and interview date in the said site are virtually reserved, immediately ( less than one second ) after activation, using SQL injection bug, and then in another time, it will be completed with the same bug.
    Problem Description
After adding the new records relating to reservation and interview dates by operator and considering that the said website is analyzed moment by moment, using software robots, and concurrent with adding records to database and regarding the aforesaid problems ( SQL Injection ), the reservation code of all records is sent to website server and as a result, the website becomes inactive less than one second after activation. Then, the single records considering the server problem ( SQL Injection ) and with real information would be updated.

In fact, this process would hinder the real function of the reservation system so that the others cannot use the website, whatsoever.
It is noted that with due regard to the above problem ( SQL Injection ), the information relating to the database records can be edited and updated by the hackers at any time.”

Please I request you to solve those problems in the website until ordinary people can get appointments in Iran rather than they are forced to buy appointments.

    Best regards
    Mahan Karimi
