Iran volleyball beats Egypt, qualifies for quarterfinals at Olympic Games

Iran staged another stunning performance in the men’s volleyball tournament of Rio 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil, and thrashed Egypt 3-0 on Saturday to qualify for the quarterfinals of the tournament.

Iran’s national Volleyball team holed out hope to earn the maximum points needed to inch closer to Poland, Argentina and Russia after defeating Egypt 3-0 (28-26, 25,22 and 25-16) in the men’s volleyball tournament of Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Shahram Mahmoudi led Iran with 21 points, while Milad Ebadipour added 10. For Egypt, Ahmed Abdelhay scored 13 points, followed by Badawy Mohamed Moneim with 9.

Now Poland have 3 wins (before tonight’s match with Russia) and stand atop. Russia stand the second after three games (2 wins), and are followed by Argentina (2 wins who should play with Cuba tonight), Iran (2 wins after their fourth match today), Egypt (1 win) and Cuba (without win).

In the last round of pool B, Iran will face Russia, Argentina will play Egypt, and Poland with Cuba on Monday and Tuesday.

The first four top teams in each Pool qualify for the next round of the men’s volleyball tournament of Rio 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.

Earlier, Argentina trounced Iran 3-0 in their first game of the tournament, while Poland and Iran played a dramatic five-setter match in which the world champion managed to defeat Raul Lozano’s men 3-2. Raul Lozano’s men defeated Cuba 3-0 in their third game.

The volleyball tournaments at the Rio 2016 Rio Olympic Games started on August 6, and will finish on August 21. Iran is pitted against Argentina, Cuba, Egypt, Poland and Russia in Pool B. Brazil, Canada, France, Italy, Mexico and the United States have been drawn in Pool A.
