The Russian representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency said Moscow is opposed to any unilateral sanctions against Iran, Financial Tribune reported.
“We have repeatedly emphasized that Moscow is against any unilateral sanctions on Iran” as they run counter to international law, Vladimir Voronkov told Russian news agency TASS on Tuesday.
His remarks came after representatives of Iran and P5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain and France, plus Germany) and the European Union gathered in Vienna on Tuesday to address Iran’s complaint about a US congressional legislation extending Iran Sanctions Act for 10 years, which Iran says is in violation of the 2015 nuclear deal.
The Russian envoy also said, “We talked about excess heavy water. Iranians have announced that they’ve found a buyer. As of now, its stock is within the limits set in the JCPOA [the nuclear deal]. There is currently no risk of their exceeding those limits.”
Voronkov added that Russia had already bought a batch of excess heavy water and was not considering additional purchases.
