Saudis shirk responsibility for missing former Iranian ambassador

By: Reza Mortezaei

Iraqi news network Nahrain net claimed on Monday, citing unidentified European diplomats, that former Iranian ambassador to Lebanon Ghazanfar Roknabadi was kidnapped by Israel’s Mossad agents in cooperation with the Saudi intelligence at the recent hajj stampede.

Following this news, ‘Al Arabiya’ news channel published a report, claiming: ‘Former Iranian diplomat’s name is not among a list of registered pilgrims. Namely, he has not been entered into Saudi Arabia.’

In response to such claims, Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham dismissed all fake news about the diplomat as incorrect and said all this propaganda served particular purposes.

Shortly after these comments, ‘Al Arabiya’ Persian changed his previous claim, alleged that former Iranian ambassador has entered into Mecca with a fake name.

Taken together, these claims indicate that Saudi government is trying to shirk its responsibility for protecting the lives of the pilgrims through the media such as Al Arabiya channel. But, Saudis must accept the responsibility for the recent accident and damage to Muslim pilgrims.

According to available credible evidence, Roknabadi has entered into Saudi Arabia, having a regular passport. However, Iran’s state TV says he is among those missing after the accident.
